General Store

http://blog.mlive.com/lcn/2007/12/GREGORY%20HARDWARE1.jpg

Today's Afternoon activity:
The Local Hardware Store
circa 1912?

Most everything is original. all melded together with years of paint.
Settled floor, original tiled ceiling, wooden catwalks walling the main floor.
Isles packed to the gills with nails, bulbs, wire, bolts etc etc.

I inhale the wonderful scent of sawdust, rubber, and metal.
The oldies station is always on, a comfort while
wandering the isles looking for nothing in particular.
Nail. Hook. Glue. Sponge.

Old man Schauer (the owner) still works the counter.
He's a tall husky man with a penetrating deep but jolly voice.
His greaser slicked white hair is accentuated by thick black rimmed glasses.
Sawdust for dandruff and thick suspenders flanking his round belly.

Customer: Mouse Traps?
Schauer: Isle 14

I peruse the candy, toy eyeglasses, and maps before walking out the door.

Hardware, always a kindled love .
