Morning Oddity

As I've mentioned in previous posts...
Every morning, immediately after waking, I start singing a single song that my dreamy subconscious left behind. (or humming)
*Every single morning* The spectrum is endless.
This morning it was :

Everything's a Story

"One of the strange things about living in the world is that it is only now and then one is quite sure one is going to live forever and ever and ever. One knows it sometimes when one gets up at the tender solemn dawn-time and goes out and stands out and throws one's head far back and looks up and up and watches the pale sky slowly changing and flushing and marvelous unknown things happening until the East almost makes one cry out and one's heart stands still at the strange unchanging majesty of the rising of the sun--which has been happening every morning for thousands and thousands and thousands of years.
One knows it then for a moment or so. And one knows it sometimes when one stands by oneself in a wood at sunset and the mysterious deep gold stillness slanting through and under the branches seems to be saying slowly again and again something one cannot quite hear, however much one tries. Then sometimes the immense quiet of the dark blue at night with the millions of stars waiting and watching makes one sure; and sometimes a sound of far-off music makes it true; and sometimes a look in someone's eyes."

Adventure

Red Rock Canyon - Mojave Desert, CA

Clear, sunshine filled afternoon, a perfect 77degrees.
The winds were strong and steady, pushing and pulling us while we scaled the rock face.
Sand in the eyes, hands covered in small cuts and fiber glass like cactus hairs.
Walking the Desert river bed, reeds still green from the rainy season.
Cathedrals of clay sand drip mountains, the land skewed with every view.

The West is forever my Home.

All but Nothing

Los Angeles.
6:32 in the a.m.
apartment entrance to car door-
en route 5 block observations:

echo of finches due the chirp.
a single orange gummy bear on a street curb.
middle aged man mumbling in spanish, still like statue.
passing of an alarm clock blaring from some odd window.
love seat on a street curb.
giant television on street curb.
the smell of jasmine.
dogging curbed dog shit and piss every other square.
cool then warm swirls of air.
101 - flaring.

this is hollywood.

Day Changer

Today at Work:
After a day of dread, came an unsuspected day changer.
It was 12 Minutes till closing...
a man & woman with three young boys walk up to the cafe.
After gazing, the Man orders slices of apple pie.
Not only did he actually converse while ordering, he also cracked a few jokes.
While I was preparing their food
he showed up with two bottles of cold beer.
One for me and my co-worker.
He slid them through the window while saying
'since you guys are closing...
I know you probably need these'

Finally a cool, generous, polite, nice person

Practice

For the past week, before anything...
correction* after the coffee is brewed and classical music flipped on.
(personal oddity: Since the age of 14,
I listen only to classical music first thing in the morning.)

I've been writing those three pages.
along with reading/re-reading chapters on zazen,
followed by the movements of cross crawl.

I don't plan on quitting these new rituals anytime soon.

thank you, plume.
for the writing routine!
