Illustration Splendor

I picked this little 1956 ditty up at my (now past) local thrift store.

I love the Illustration so much it Hurts.
A few glances inside

While reading through, it had me laughing hysterically. Though, decided to take on the mindset of a stereotypical Housewife in the 50's...
In attempt to pass the Home-Maker Test in the back, Yowzer!

SCORE:

I've officially failed my future husband and children.
We'll have to squander in such living conditions as

  • poor lighting
  • awful color schemes
  • no themed rooms
  • deglamorized floors
  • No solid pink room

Golly!

Shoe Fitting Fluoroscope

"three viewing ports on the top of the cabinet (e.g., one for the child being fitted, one for the child's parent, and the third for the shoe salesman or saleswoman), you would see a fluorescent image of the bones of the feet and the outline of the shoes."

The Certificate, typical 1950's Gem.
'This scientific way of approaching the problem of poorly-fitted shoes eliminates guesswork.
Now you can see for yourself!'

What a brilliant Gimmick for Shoe Stores!

The shoe fitting fluoroscope was brought to my attention last night. I sat and listened with astonishment, while my dad spilled his childhood memories with this fine looking device.

Sunday Cartoons

Flash back sunday.

While some families would have to go to church, or an outing of sorts....

My brother and I would be eating bowl after bowl of CEO (cereal) while watching cartoons, and then eventually build a 'Couch Fort' out of our old L-shaped brown leather couch.

Reminiscing

Some personal footage from my ex- home sweet home.

Comedy Act

Last night I started to make some headway packing up my Harrison Pad. A buddy of mine came over last night to make the experience a bit more fun.

This is packing in a nutshell:

Then my 'willing to please' ipod popped this baby on, to both our SATISFACTION! *don't ask me why I have this song, thanks.*

Benny Benassi's 2002 hit

This was my take on the satisfaction video.

WORK FORCE CLAW HAMMER

HUSKY SCREWDRIVER
- with Phillips reversible head

maybe you just had to be there to take in this hilarious display of my 'satisfaction gal' impression ;)

I was laughing so hard that I'm surprised we got a couple 'still' pictures in.

Sneak a Peek

Sometimes you just need a fun and helpful reminder about the 'little' things in life. A great coffee table book. See Keri Smith Blog

Illustration

I'm not a women who is fashion forward, or painfully hip, but extremely drawn to 20's-50's era clothing (hence the book) and fine illustration.

While perusing the art section in the bookstore, I came across

While flipping through this book, the following style would clearly sum up

La Poste

I was walking to the store yesterday afternoon
and came across this Postcard lying on the sidewalk.

Imagine sending a postcard from France, have it arrive to it's destined city but was never delivered because it jumped out of the postie. I would be crushed.

I was determined to walk this postcard to it's rightful owner.
I have lived in Oak Park sporadically through out my life, and I'm still horrible with street names.

I get around by landmarks, I know not such a bright idea.

Every person I crossed paths with, I inquired about directions.

And I finally made it...

Salut!

Fritz 'Reels' Us In

Metropolis lost about 20 minutes of 'Censored' Film.
"German filmmaker Fritz Lang directed the film, and three reels have been missing almost since its premiere in 1927."

This inspirational Sci-Fi Classic is now complete with the recent discovery of long-lost footage found in Argentina.
Fritz Lang hits the top of my favorite directors list. If you haven't seen this movie, do so.
Along with all his many Classics.

Art Time

The Potato Eaters 1885 by Vincent Van Gogh. Oil on Canvas

This painting inspired a modern day Potato Eaters.

A project I entitled The Ramen Eaters. *Ramen noodle*
Starving Artists sitting around, broke, drinking beer.

There was a breakfest nook in my old apartment. I walled it with dry wall and began painting just the background of the Potato Eaters.

Close to finished product

After setting the scene and jerry-rigging a light above, the peasants come in...

Some friends, starting from the left: Erika, Markus, Turner, Bill, Josiah.
I took a slew of pictures within a few minutes, and just like that my month project was over.

Final Product: The Ramen Eaters 2005 by me: Lauren Rutledge

Bill Ross photoshopped the chosen picture for me.

music appreciation mornin'

personal glimpse: An oddity

Every morning, immediately after waking, I start singing a single song that my dreamy subconscious left behind. *Every single morning* The spectrum is endless. From Donovan to Lavender Diamond. James Carr to Bob Dylan.

This morning it was Wildwood Flower By The Carter Family

Now listening to:

Rise 'n' shine

Good Morning! The coffee pot is on and I'm waiting for the sun to show it's lovely face. In the meantime....

Meet William. A local Chicago baby.

I combed his hair over, off his sweaty brow on that hot and muggy summer day. His expression is priceless. I'm quite sure he was criticizing my Old 35mm Cannon "student camera"
